Is my contribution tax-deductible?

Yes, The Valley Hospice Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity as determined by the IRS.  All or a portion of your gift may be tax deductible as allowed by law.  Consult a tax professional if you have specific questions. Back to the top.

Will you send something to the family?

Yes, we send acknowledgements of all donations to the family member(s) indicated by the donor or to the patient’s primary caregiver when the donor makes no indication.  To protect our donor’s privacy, we never disclose the amount of a contribution, only that a contribution has been made. What do you do with the money you raise?

A large portion of the funds we raise are used to meet immediate needs.  Many patients come to Valley Hospice without Medicare or private insurance.  Valley Hospice cares for all patients who can benefit from hospice care, regardless of their ability to pay.  This creates a significant annual cost that is covered through contributed funds.  Other programs that are not fully funded by the Hospice Medicare Benefit or private insurances, such as Bereavement, or programs like Art & Music Therapy, Aromatherapy, etc. may be supported with contributed funds.

The remainder of the funds we raise are held in the Foundation in various forms of investments.  This provides ongoing interest revenue and gives us the opportunity to save for future projects and initiatives.  It also serves as a safeguard against possible changes to healthcare that could negatively impact hospice reimbursements. Will you tell me the amounts that individual people donated in memory of my family member?

No.  We respect the privacy of our donors.  Individual contribution amounts are kept confidential unless the donor instructs us otherwise.  We may, at the request of the family, disclose the cumulative total of all contributions received in memory of an individual. Back to the top.

Can I specify where I want my donation to be used?

Yes.  Unrestricted gifts offer the most direct benefit to patients and families served by Valley Hospice.  Unrestricted contributions allow us to utilize the funds in the way they are most needed.  Those needs change over time, so unrestricted funds can do the most good because of their flexibility.  We do realize that from time to time a donor may wish to direct funds to a specific initiative.  Ongoing designated funds at The Valley Hospice Foundation include:

  • Liza’s Place, Care Center South
  • Care Center North
  • Bereavement
  • Whispered Wishes

If you have an idea for a gift that would fund a program or endow a position that is not listed in our ongoing designated funds, please contact us to arrange a meeting to discuss your idea.  We welcome new ideas from those who have experienced hospice care and who have suggestions for ways to make it better. Can I donate something other than money?

Yes.  The Valley Hospice Foundations is grateful to accept certain non-cash gifts.  All gifts of tangible personal property (such as, but not limited to, jewelry, collectibles, objets d’art, antiques, vehicles, real estate or equipment) must first be presented to and approved by the Executive Director before the gift can be accepted by or delivered to the Foundation.  No personal property will be accepted that obligates the Foundation to ownership of it in perpetuity.  Where an appraisal of an in-kind gift may be required for its valuation, the donor will assume the responsibility of securing the appraisal.

For questions specific to the gift you have in mind, please call us at 740.859.5650 or 877.HOSPICE. Back to the top.

Are there opportunities for donor recognition, memorial recognition, and other naming opportunities available through The Valley Hospice Foundation?

Yes.  Making a gift that is dedicated to the memory of a special person or family is a wonderful way to keep those memories alive for generations to come.  Through The Valley Hospice Foundation there are many opportunities for donor recognition at all three Valley Hospice locations.  Recognitions such as these begin at just $250 and can be tailored to the size and intention of your gift.

If you have a question about donor recognition not answered here, please call us at 740.859.5650 or 877.HOSPICE. Back to the top.
